Chapter 18 – Two Sisters, One Promise
Scene: Sisters' bedroom – Sunday afternoon
Padma and Saroja decide that Keerthana needs emotional support.
They invite her into their bedroom and prepare a small surprise.
The bed is covered with different clothes: floral nighties, cotton chudidhars, long frocks, comfortable innerwear and beautiful sarees.
Keerthana looks surprised.
Keerthana: "Why have you bought so many clothes?"
Padma: "Because you keep wearing the same three outfits!"
Everyone laughs.
Saroja begins applying warm coconut oil to Keerthana's long hair. Padma carefully combs it from the ends and demonstrates how to avoid breakage.
They try several hairstyles: a loose ponytail, a traditional braid, a low bun and a side-parted hairstyle.
Later, Padma places jasmine flowers in her braid.
Keerthana looks into the mirror.
Keerthana: "Sometimes I feel I don't deserve all this affection."
Saroja: "You don't have to earn our affection. You are family."
Keerthana hugs both sisters.
They promise that whatever happens with Ananya, they will never abandon her.
Ending moment: From the doorway, Athamma watches the three women hugging. She smiles quietly and brings them homemade snacks.
