Chapter 16 – Behind the Closed Door

Scene: Keerthana and Ananya's bedroom – First night after Ananya's return

The house slowly becomes quiet. Everyone has gone to sleep, but Keerthana and Ananya remain awake in their bedroom.

Ananya closes the door and looks at Keerthana, who is sitting near the dressing table wearing her maroon saree. Her long braid, decorated with jasmine flowers, rests over her shoulder.

Ananya: "I want you to tell me everything. From the beginning. How did all this happen?"

Keerthana takes a deep breath.

Keerthana: "When you went abroad, I spent most of my time with your sisters. Initially, they helped me with small things. Hairstyles, household work, cooking and dressing. Slowly, I realised that expressing myself this way made me comfortable."

Ananya listens silently.

Ananya: "But why didn't you tell me? I was your wife. Didn't you trust me?"

Keerthana: "I trusted you more than anyone. But I was frightened that you might reject me."

Ananya turns away, unable to control her tears.

Ananya: "I need time. I cannot understand everything in one night."

She removes her bangles and places them beside the mirror.

Keerthana watches silently.

That night, they sleep on opposite sides of the bed.

Ending moment: Keerthana looks at their wedding photograph and cries quietly, wondering whether their marriage can survive this new reality.
