Chapter 11 — The Doctor's Guidance
As Sowjanya's feelings became clearer, she wanted to understand the medical aspects of gender transition.
Lakshmi Devi accompanied her to a qualified medical professional. The doctor listened carefully and explained that gender-affirming care was a personal decision requiring informed consent, appropriate evaluation, and ongoing medical supervision.
Sowjanya asked questions about hormone therapy, possible changes, emotional effects, and long-term health. The doctor explained that each person's experience was different and that no treatment should be rushed.
Sowjanya felt relieved. For years, she had believed that she had to understand everything alone.
The doctor also discussed the importance of counseling and support during recovery from trauma. Sowjanya realized that her identity and the pain of the farmhouse incident were separate matters, even though both had affected her life.
She began attending appointments and making decisions carefully.
Lakshmi Devi supported her without pressuring her.
"Your life belongs to you," her mother said. "Make choices that bring you peace."
Sowjanya left the clinic with a sense of clarity. She was no longer simply wondering who she was.
She was beginning to build a future with knowledge, support, and self-respect.
