Chapter 9 — The Name Sowjanya
Sujan began exploring feminine clothing and presentation more openly. At first, he felt nervous. He worried that the villagers might judge him or misunderstand his choices.
Lakshmi Devi encouraged him to move at his own pace.
One afternoon, he stood before a mirror wearing a simple sky-blue chudidhar. His long dark hair fell over his shoulders. He studied his reflection, searching for the feeling that had been missing for so long.
Lakshmi Devi entered quietly.
"You look peaceful," she said.
Sujan smiled faintly. "I feel peaceful."
They spoke about identity, names, and the future. Sujan eventually chose the name Sowjanya, a name that felt gentle, meaningful, and true to her.
The decision was deeply emotional. She was not trying to erase her past. She was choosing a way to live honestly.
Lakshmi Devi embraced her.
"Then Sowjanya you shall be," she said.
That evening, Sowjanya sat beside her mother under the stars. For the first time, she felt that the name she carried and the person she saw in the mirror belonged together.
Her transformation was not simply about clothing or appearance. It was about finding the courage to live as herself.
