Chapter 25 – The Day of Surgery
Scene: Hospital – Early morning
After extensive medical consultations, counselling and careful consideration, Keerthana decides to undergo gender-affirming surgery.
The night before the procedure, the family gathers at home.
Grandmother prepares a special meal. Athamma places her hand on Keerthana's head and blesses her.
Saroja tries to remain strong, but tears begin rolling down her cheeks.
Saroja: "You have always been like our younger sister. Come back safely."
Padma hugs her.
Ananya holds Keerthana's hand as they enter the hospital.
The specialist explains the procedure, recovery expectations, possible complications and aftercare one final time.
Keerthana confirms her informed consent.
Before entering the operating area, she looks at Ananya.
Keerthana: "Will you be waiting?"
Ananya: "I won't move from here."
The operation takes place under the care of the medical team.
The family waits anxiously.
After the procedure, the doctor comes out and explains that Keerthana is stable and recovering under observation.
Ananya finally breaks down in tears of relief.
Ending moment: She enters the recovery room, gently holds Keerthana's hand and whispers, "We will face the next chapter together."
