Chapter 4: The Name Aaradhya
Devika began speaking about transformation as if it were a business project. She showed Arjun advertisements for hormonal medicines and promised that tablets could quickly reshape his body.
She never took him to a qualified specialist. Instead, she presented unlabelled pills and insisted that he follow her instructions. Arjun became frightened. He had no way to know what the tablets contained or what they might do to his health.
When he questioned her, Devika told him that his future depended on obedience.
“You will become Aaradhya,” she declared. “You will look the way I decide. You will dress the way I decide. And one day, you will thank me.”
But a new name, feminine clothing, or medication could not give Devika ownership over another person’s identity. Arjun knew that, even as his confidence began to crumble.
He secretly photographed the medicine packaging and started keeping a record of her instructions. It was the first decision he had made without her permission in weeks.
