Chapter 10: The Woman Who Walked Away
Months later, Aaradhya stood outside a railway station again. This time, she was not there to collect money for Devika. She was waiting for a friend who had offered her a place to stay while she continued rebuilding her life.
She wore a simple blue saree and small earrings. The morning sunlight caught the edge of her bangles.
Aaradhya thought about the woman who had once controlled her every movement. Devika had wanted a permanent victim: someone who would accept humiliation as love, exploitation as duty, and obedience as identity.
But Aaradhya had survived the most important part of that struggleβthe moment she began to believe that her choices mattered.
She stepped onto the train and found a seat beside the window. Her future was uncertain. Her past would not disappear overnight. Yet for the first time, the next station was hers to choose.
And the name on her new identity was not a command from her aunt. It was her own.
