Chapter 4 — A Name in the Mirror
Scene 4
Hari's recovery became a daily ritual.
Priya helped him brush and style his growing hair. She taught him simple grooming and showed him how different clothes changed the way he felt. At first, Hari treated everything as rehabilitation.
Then something unexpected happened.
He began smiling at his reflection.
It was not the smile of someone pretending. It was the smile of someone seeing a possibility.
Priya noticed.
“What should I call you when you feel like this?” she asked.
Hari hesitated.
A name came to him almost instinctively.
“Harika.”
Priya repeated it softly.
“Harika.”
The name felt strangely natural.
Still, there were difficult moments. Hari sometimes became frightened by the gaps in his memory. Sometimes he woke from dreams containing places he could not identify. And every time he asked the hospital about the unexplained treatment, the answers became more cautious.
Priya promised not to hide the truth from him.
She also promised something more important: whatever the truth was, Hari—or Harika—would get to choose what happened next.
For the first time, Harika began to believe that recovery was not simply about returning to the past.
