Chapter 3 — The Woman in the Photograph

Weeks passed after Hari woke.
His memory returned in fragments. A childhood street. His mother's voice. A college friend. Priya's laughter.
But his sense of self remained confused.
One afternoon, Priya showed him an old photograph from their life together. Hari stared at it for a long time. He recognized himself, yet the person in the photograph felt strangely distant.
“Who am I supposed to be?” he finally asked.
Priya did not force an answer.
Instead, she told him, “You don't have to decide today.”
That night, Hari found himself studying his reflection. His features looked softer than he remembered. His hair framed his face differently. The changes made him uncomfortable at first, but there was also a quiet curiosity.
Priya became his guide—not by telling him what to become, but by giving him permission to explore.
She began helping him with simple routines: hair care, comfortable clothing, skincare, and rebuilding confidence after a year in bed.
Then she discovered a hidden clue in the hospital paperwork: one of the specialist procedures listed in Hari's file did not match the explanation she had originally received.
Someone had authorized an additional treatment.
Priya did not know who.
The mystery deepened.
