Chapter 4 — The Sisters Begin to Notice
Scene: The Family Dining Room — One Week After Ananya's Departure
Without Ananya, the house felt unfamiliar to Kethan.
He continued working from home, attending meetings and completing assignments. At the same time, he began helping Lakshmi with groceries, washing dishes, folding clothes, and serving meals.
Initially, Padma treated his efforts as a joke.
"Look at our software engineer! Soon he will run the entire kitchen!"
Kethan lowered his eyes.
"If I can help, why shouldn't I?"
Saroja immediately supported him.
"There's nothing wrong with sharing household responsibilities."
One afternoon, Kethan accidentally served the wrong curry to Grandfather.
Padma laughed, but Grandfather tasted it and declared, "It is still food! My stomach doesn't know the difference!"
The entire family burst into laughter.
Even Kethan laughed freely.
It was the first time since Ananya's departure that he felt genuinely comfortable in the house.
Later, Padma quietly admitted to Saroja, "He really is trying."
Saroja nodded.
"Then perhaps we should stop testing him and start teaching him."
From that day, the sisters began showing Kethan how to organise the kitchen, wash delicate sarees, arrange clothes, and manage daily household tasks.
Their original curiosity gradually became genuine involvement in his life.
Neither sister knew how far their relationship with Kethan would eventually develop.
