The family had been preparing for a festival when unexpected relatives arrived early.
Pradeep was in his room wearing comfortable feminine nightwear, with his long hair divided into two braids. Aadya was helping him practise a new hairstyle.
Suddenly, someone called from the hallway.
"The relatives are here!"
Pradeep hurried toward his room, but one of the older relatives saw him before he could change.
The relative stared in disbelief.
"What is happening here?"
Pradeep froze. His face turned red as he heard whispers from the hallway.
Sushma immediately came forward.
"He is my son. Please speak to him respectfully."
The relative complained that the family would become the subject of gossip.
Aadya stood beside her brother.
"He hasn't hurt anyone. Why should he be insulted?"
Pradeep returned to his room, deeply upset. He worried that his choices would bring trouble to his mother and sister.
That night, Sushma sat beside him and held his hand.
"I cannot promise that everyone will understand, but you will not be treated as worthless in your own home."
Pradeep began to cry.
The incident hurt him, but it also showed him that his family was learning to stand beside him.
