Chapter 8 — The Secret of the Temple Saree
On the seventh day, Lakshmi and Ravi returned to the temple.
The old priest took one look at Ravi and bowed his head.
“So the saree has chosen its bearer,” he murmured.
Ravi stepped forward.
“Why did this happen to me? I never wanted to wear women's clothes.”
The priest explained that the saree carried a forgotten vow. Long ago, a devoted couple had asked the goddess to teach them that love was greater than outward appearance. The goddess had blessed the saree with the power to transform anyone who touched it without permission.
“But why can't I change back?” Ravi asked.
“The magic cannot be broken by anger or fear,” the priest answered. “You must discover what the experience means to you. The choice to embrace your new life must be yours.”
Lakshmi held Ravi's hand.
“And if he wishes to return to his former appearance?”
“The goddess's blessing will answer when the truth is understood.”
Ravi looked at his wife.
He did not suddenly love sarees, makeup, or jewelry. Nor had his feelings about his own identity disappeared. But he had discovered patience, trust, and a new understanding of how vulnerable a person could feel when their appearance changed without warning.
He decided to continue seeking the truth rather than fighting the mystery alone.
