Chapter 2 — The Priest's Warning
One Friday morning, Lakshmi visited the village temple to offer flowers to the goddess.
After the prayers, the elderly priest called her forward and presented her with a magnificent red silk saree decorated with golden zari work.
“This is no ordinary saree,” he warned. “It carries an ancient blessing. No one except you must touch it. Anyone else who touches it will face its consequences.”
Lakshmi accepted the saree nervously.
At home, she placed it carefully on the bed and went to bathe, intending to put it safely away afterward.
That evening, Ravi returned from work. Seeing the beautiful silk lying on the bed, he assumed Lakshmi had forgotten to store it. He picked it up and placed it on the upper shelf of their wooden wardrobe.
The moment his fingers touched the silk, a tiny golden spark flashed across the room.
Ravi blinked.
Then he closed the wardrobe and went about his evening.
