Chapter 2 — The Skincare Pact
Hostel bathroom and bedroom · A new routine
The next weekend, Mira placed a row of skincare bottles on their desk.
“Your turn,” she announced.
“My turn for what?”
“Cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen. And we're sorting out that dry skin.”
She showed Aarav how to wash his face gently and apply moisturizer without rubbing too hard. He copied her movements, watching her reflection in the mirror.
Then she suggested that he try removing some of his body hair because he had mentioned feeling uncomfortable with it. Mira explained the options and helped him choose a suitable hair-removal product. He read the instructions, tested a small patch first, and followed the directions carefully in private. She waited outside and helped him apply moisturizer afterward.
When he returned in a fresh lilac T-shirt, he looked at his arms and smiled in surprise. “It feels different,” he admitted.
“Different good or different bad?” Mira asked.
“Different good.”
Mira handed him a soft pink lounge top to try. He hesitated, but this time she didn't threaten him or push him. She simply said he could return it whenever he wanted.
He tried it on. Mira gave him a thumbs-up, and he burst out laughing at how seriously she was treating the whole experiment.
Their bargain had begun with a secret. Their new routine was beginning with something else: Aarav's own curiosity.
