Chapter 5 — The CCTV Twist
The investigation changed completely when the recovered CCTV footage was reviewed.
The footage showed that Siva had not gone looking for a fight. The two men had followed him, threatened him, and initiated the physical confrontation. The fatal strike had happened during the struggle.
There was still one problem: Siva had fled.
That made the police suspicious.
Sharvari continued working at the hospital while Madhuri encouraged her not to panic. Their home became a place of honest conversations rather than simply a hiding place.
Then a second witness came forward. A shopkeeper remembered seeing Siva being cornered and told investigators that the young man had been trying to escape before the stick was used. Another camera showed the second attacker running away.
The police eventually arrested that attacker in another city. His statement confirmed what the footage suggested: Siva had acted in fear during an assault.
The police still needed to locate Siva to complete the investigation.
Madhuri wanted Sharvari to disappear.
Sharvari refused.
“I don't want to spend the rest of my life running.”
Together, they went to the authorities through a lawyer and explained the circumstances.
The final twist was almost anticlimactic: the evidence did not show murder with intent. It showed a chaotic act of self-defense followed by panic.
The case was closed without charges against Siva.
He had not escaped by fooling the police.
He had escaped the worst outcome because the truth, once fully uncovered, supported him.
