Chapter 15 — The Wedding Proposal
As Sowjanya grew more confident and independent, Lakshmi Devi began thinking about her daughter's future.
One evening, she spoke about a proposal from Arjun, the educated son of a respected landowning family. Arjun had met Sowjanya during village development meetings and admired her honesty, courage, and intelligence.
Sowjanya felt nervous. Marriage was a serious decision, especially after everything she had experienced.
Lakshmi Devi assured her that she would never force her into a relationship.
Sowjanya and Arjun met several times. They spoke about their hopes, family expectations, and the life they wanted to build. Sowjanya shared her journey openly, and Arjun listened with respect.
He told her, "I want to know you as you are. I don't want you to hide your past from me."
His words touched her deeply.
After careful thought, Sowjanya accepted the proposal. The village celebrated the engagement with music, flowers, and traditional rituals.
Sowjanya wore a sky-blue silk saree. Her long braid was decorated with jasmine, and her face glowed with shy happiness.
For the first time, she allowed herself to imagine a future filled with love.
The next chapter of her life was about to begin.
