Chapter 4 — Flowers Become a Tradition
As Arjun's hair continued to grow, flowers became part of the friendship almost by accident.
Nandu's online flower orders became regular. Jasmine arrived most often, but kanakambaram and roses appeared too. Some days there was only a small handful. On special days, Nandu brought enough flowers for everyone to enjoy.
Maya learned how to arrange the flowers along the braid without making it uncomfortable. Nandu preferred longer garlands that followed the braid. Arjun enjoyed comparing their styles and sometimes asked them to try something different.
The three friends also began experimenting with outfits. Arjun discovered that traditional clothing made the long braid and flowers feel especially natural to him. He tried different colors and fabrics, while Maya and Nandu encouraged him to choose what felt comfortable rather than simply copying someone else's style.
One afternoon, Maya braided his hair while Nandu prepared a small rose arrangement. Arjun looked at himself and realized how far he had come from the first day when he had been unsure about even mentioning his wish to grow his hair.
The change had happened slowly.
There had been no single dramatic moment. Instead, there were dozens of ordinary ones: washing and brushing, waiting for length, learning to braid, receiving flowers, laughing with friends and looking in the mirror.
Arjun understood that the most meaningful transformations were sometimes the ones that happened gradually.
He had started by wanting long hair.
Now he had created a style, a routine and a memory that belonged entirely to him.
