Chapter 1 — The Orphan Who Chose the Uniform
The morning sun had barely risen over the city when Sub-Inspector Sujan stepped out of his small apartment. His neatly pressed police uniform, polished shoes, and disciplined posture reflected the life he had built through determination. At twenty-seven, Sujan had already earned a reputation for being hardworking, honest, and fearless. But behind his confident appearance was a childhood filled with loneliness.
Sujan had grown up in an orphanage. He had no memories of his parents, no family photographs, and no one waiting for him after school. The orphanage caretaker, Lakshmi Amma, had become the closest thing he had to a mother. She taught him that a person's worth was determined not by their birth but by their actions.
As a child, Sujan had always been curious about hairstyles. Sometimes, while watching girls prepare for festivals, he wondered why he felt such a deep connection to their appearance. He never understood those feelings and kept them hidden.
Years later, when he became a police officer, he believed he had finally found his place in the world.
"One day, I will make sure nobody feels as helpless as I once did," he promised himself.
He did not know that his greatest investigation would lead him toward a truth he had been afraid to discover.
