The following morning, Arjun met Maya and Tara at a small café near their hostel.
Maya listened to his problems before explaining the situation.
"Our hostel does not accept male residents," she said. "The warden is very strict about the rules."
"Then I will find a room somewhere else," Arjun replied, although he knew his savings would not last long.
Maya studied his long hair and suddenly suggested a different approach.
"You could try a feminine makeover and use the name Riya while we investigate whether there is a legitimate accommodation option."
Arjun stared at her.
"Why should I change my appearance just to find a room?"
Tara looked uncomfortable. "Maya, he needs help, not another problem."
Maya argued that a makeover might give Arjun a temporary presentation to experiment with, but Arjun made one thing clear: he would not agree to anything that put him in danger or required him to lie about official documents.
After a long discussion, they decided to visit a beauty parlour. Arjun agreed to explore hairstyles and clothing, but he remained uncertain about the plan.
He was not looking for a new identity. He was looking for a safe place to sleep.
That distinction would become increasingly important as the days passed.
