Chapter 2: The Lady Boss's Unusual Proposal
The next morning, Arjun met Meera again, this time with Ishita Rao, the HR manager. Ishita explained that the cultural programme was designed to encourage creativity and challenge assumptions about fashion. Participants could choose their own level of involvement, and respectful behaviour was mandatory.

Meera repeated that Arjun's conduct review would be handled separately. “I won't use a fashion event as a substitute for a fair process,” she said. “If you participate, it should be because you choose to accept the challenge—not because you fear losing your job.”

Arjun thought for a long moment. The thought of colleagues seeing him in feminine clothing made him nervous, but he was also curious about how a professional transformation worked. “I would like to try it,” he said at last. “But I need guidance, and I don't want the event to become a public humiliation.”

“That's a reasonable boundary,” Ishita replied. “We will make sure the event remains respectful. You can stop at any point, and you will approve the outfit before wearing it.”

Ishita gave him the details for Rhea Kapoor, a stylist who ran Rhea's Beauty Studio. That evening, Arjun arrived at the salon feeling conspicuous. The room was bright and welcoming, with mirrors framed by warm lights, neatly arranged cosmetics, and racks of carefully coordinated outfits.

Rhea greeted him warmly. “You don't need to know anything beforehand. We'll talk about comfort, colour, and the look you want. Nothing happens without your agreement.”

She showed him several options: a pastel kurta with straight trousers, a flowing skirt and blouse, a simple salwar suit, and more formal looks. Arjun was surprised by the variety of fabrics and cuts. He had assumed that choosing an outfit was simple, but Rhea explained how fit, colour, fabric, and accessories could change the overall impression.

After discussing the event's theme, Arjun chose a pastel-pink kurta with cream trousers and a matching dupatta. Rhea suggested a neat, softly styled hairdo and subtle makeup. She explained each step before applying it, from preparing the skin to selecting a natural lip colour.

When Arjun finally looked in the mirror, he paused. His hair had been arranged differently, his features looked more polished, and the colours gave the outfit a coordinated finish. He did not look like a stranger exactly; he looked like a version of himself he had never seen.

“Is that really me?” he asked quietly.

“It's you, styled for a particular look,” Rhea answered. “Makeup and clothes can change presentation, but they don't decide who you are.”

Arjun studied the reflection, first searching for what seemed unfamiliar, then noticing the details that worked together. The experience was less frightening than he had imagined. It required patience, trust, and a willingness to learn.

Before he left, Rhea showed him how to keep the dupatta in place, sit comfortably, and move without constantly adjusting his clothes. She also gave him simple advice about caring for the outfit and removing makeup safely.

On the way home, Arjun realized that he was no longer thinking only about how his colleagues might react. He was thinking about the craft of styling, the choices available to him, and how much he had never noticed before. His first transformation had not answered every question, but it had replaced some of his fear with curiosity.
