Chapter 7 — The Long-Hair Celebration
Months passed, and eventually Arjun's hair reached a length none of them had expected when the promise began.
The friends decided to celebrate.
Maya prepared a comfortable festive outfit. Nandu ordered a large selection of fresh flowers. Arjun chose a soft pink floral traditional outfit and sat patiently while they prepared his hair.
The braid took time because there was so much length to gather.
Maya worked from the top, carefully dividing the hair. Nandu followed behind, smoothing each section and adding flowers as the braid progressed.
Jasmine formed the main garland, while small orange kanakambaram flowers and red roses added color.
When they finally finished, the braid reached well down his back.
Arjun stood before the mirror.
For a few seconds he simply stared.
He remembered the balcony conversation, the first nervous experiment, the first extension, the first uneven braid and the first temple morning. All those moments seemed connected by one simple decision: he had chosen not to cut his hair and had given himself permission to see what happened next.
Maya placed a hand on his shoulder.
Nandu smiled and said, “This is the longest it has ever been.”
Arjun nodded.
“But I think the best part,” he said, “is that I did it my way.”
They took one photograph together—not as a record of a makeover, but as a record of friendship.
The flowers, the braid and the clothes were beautiful, but the real celebration was the confidence behind them.
